January ’24 update – What’s on the agenda?

January ’24 update – What’s on the agenda?

The new year has begun. A year that is intended to lay the foundation for the nursery. This month, we hope to receive an official recognition from the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA), an environmental permit from the Environmental Service (ODMH), engage in discussions with the Wageningen University & Research (WUR), and gather more information regarding a subsidy for innovative projects in the aquaculture sector.

NVWA Visit
In December 2023, an application was submitted for recognition as an aquaculture production company. This is a crucial step for importing larvae and the actual breeding process. In the third week of January, the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) will conduct an inspection.

If we obtain the recognition, we will officially be the only recognized aquaculture institution in the Netherlands dedicated to the breeding of white tiger shrimp.

Environmental permit (ODMH)
For our operations, we require an environmental permit from the ODMH. In this process, the environmental service assesses the use of materials, waste processing and the impact on the immediate surroundings.

Wageningen University & Research
At the end of January, we will meet with various professors from Wageningen University. We will explore collaboration opportunities (combined with a subsidy) and will be given a tour of the research facilities.

Subsidy – Innovative projects in the aquaculture sector
Starting from March, it will be possible to submit a subsidy application for innovative projects in the aquaculture sector. This is the so-called EMFAF project, which is largely funded by the EU. With the WUR as our knowledge institution, we are attempting to qualify for this subsidy. In mid-January, we are attending various informational sessions to familiarize ourselves with the process.

Furthermore
We will commence various research projects on bacterial groups and their impact on our breeding method. These investigations pertain to Nitrite-Oxidizing Bacteria (NOB) and Ammonium-Oxidizing Bacteria (AOB).

Dutch Vannamei B.V. operates with support from the EMFAF fund, a subsidy provided by the European Union. Through EMAF, the European Union allocates funds for the European Integrated Maritime Policy (GMB) and the Common Fisheries Policy (GVB). More information about the support we receive can be found at https://www.dutchvannamei.com/emfaf-subsidy/.
